PPP is not supporting PTI or PAT’

Pakistan Peoples Party
PPP leader says dharnas and long marches are part of the democratic system.
The Pakistan Peoples’ Party is not supporting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s  ‘#Azadi March’ or Pakistan Awami Tehrik leader Tahirul Qadri’s ‘inqilaab’, party leader Faisal Karim Kundi said on Tuesday.

The former Deputy Speaker National Assembly said the PPP will not be a part of any movement aimed at derailing the country’s democratic system and urged Imran Khan to postpone his long march on August 14, saying it was a day for national unity.

The PPP leader said dharnas (sit-ins) and long marches are part of the democratic system but must be carried out within a constitutional ambit.

Kundi said there was ‘no harm’ in the government giving in to Imran Khan’s demand for a recount in four constituencies. He said the formation of a committee on election reforms is a positive step and urged PTI to put forward reservations and suggestions to the Electoral Reforms Committee.

“The president, prime minister or ministers cannot influence the election commission or order the recounting of votes in any constituency and the ECP is an independent body to take a decision in this regard,” Kundi said. The Express News Tribune
