ISLAMABAD/Karachi - Three deputy attorney generals, who were representing the federal government in key cases, tendered their resignations citing personal reasons. According to a private TV channel, advocates Zahid Khan, Waleed Ansari and Mohsin Imam, all belonging to Karachi, submitted their resignations to Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt. According to reports, Advocate Zahid Khan was assisting the AG in former president Pervez Musharraf’s case for removal of his name from Exit Control List (ECL).
Waleed Ansari was representing the federal government in the tax and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) cases while Mohsin Imam was playing his key role in criminal cases.

The Sindh High Court on Tuesday resumed hearing of former president Pervez Musharraf’s petition seeking removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt appeared before a two-member bench and said in his arguments that the former military chief could not be allowed to leave Pakistan since his presence in the country is necessary for the treason case proceedings.
He said the orders to put Musharraf on ECL were issued by the Supreme of Court, so travel ban on the accused could not be lifted unless the apex court changed its ruling. The government has already filed its formal response to the court over the petition, opposing lifting of travel ban on the former president.
The bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Shahnawaz Tariq, adjourned the hearing till today (Wednesday), allowing the AG to carry on his contention.
Musharraf was indicted in March on the charges of imposition of emergency rule in 2007. The ex-general, who seized power in 1999 and resigned in 2008, has pleaded not guilty to the treason charges.
